Working properties
Pear is easy to machine, nails and screws moderately and glues well. Has to be dried slowly to avoid collaps.
General description
There almost no difference between heartwood and sapwood of pear. The colour is yellow to pink-brown and will get a warm tone on exposure to light. The wood has a fine uniform, straight grain and texture. The wood is of medium density with good bending properties, it has low stiffness and medium strength and shock-resistance.
Main uses
Sculptures, musical instruments, handles, grips, mouldings.
