Origin
South and Central America.

Working properties
The blunting effect is normal and peeling and slicing is reported to be good. Nailing is poor and nails holding is variable. Gluing is correct with dry woods. It dries slowly. High temperature steaming (80°C) improves drying. Drying is not recommended for thickness > 40mm.

General description
The wood is light brown with pink to red brown shades. Possible presence of wind shakes. It has clearly demarcated sapwood. The grain is interlocked and the texture is medium. Density at 12 % moisture content: 0.66 g/cm3.

Main uses
Louro Vermelho can be used for several applications: interior: e.g. panelling, high class furniture, veneer, boxes and crates, joinery, sliced veneer, moulding, light carpentry, formwork. Exterior: e.g. wood frame house, panelling, ship building, bridges, joinery, open boats. Drying problems may restrict end-uses.
